If someone had told me ten years ago that I would be home educating my daughter, I would have laughed—politely, of course. I was a qualified teacher with decades of experience, and like many parents, I believed that only schools could provide a “proper” education.

I was one of those parents who silently judged.
I assumed home-educated children missed out, that parents weren’t equipped, that schooling must always be superior.

And then life taught me otherwise.

Today, seven years into home educating my daughter, I can confidently say she is thriving—academically, emotionally, creatively, socially. She is curious, confident and connected to her learning in a way I rarely saw in the classroom.

But choosing this path didn’t come without backlash.

My adult children criticised my decision.
